Start spreading the news. This Twitter account INeedToLeaveNY taps into everyday NYC insanity in a fun contradicting kind of way. We’ve been following this account for some time and it’s pretty wonderful. Since all good things are not what they seem, we fact checked this mysterious account and he or she is from here. Our kids have this amazing lie detector device that we run social media posts or accounts through it. It gives us the full backstory, the origin, and DNA of those accounts and it’s whereabouts. Real high-tech shit! This one passed the Fisher Price lie test with flying colors and even played a song. In addition to closely monitoring all these posts in real-time, we also reached out to the account and we got back an “I love you” all in caps!
NYC is constantly filled with hell and creatures that always make you question ‘Why The Fuck Am I here?’. It’s a grueling love hate that we all go through, and this city is constantly trying to push us out with 10K rent, organic air, and artisanal handcrafted water from the Gowanus Canal. It really is something special and absurd that we all live like this, but also NYC is the greatest city in the world, or so we think. We get most of our inspiration from the subway, and these posts really do sum up living in New York City.
I would imagine these are being written the same way we write most of our scripts, on the train, or on a dreadful commute, being inspired or spooked by some crazy nut job who just won’t leave you alone. The other day we had a woman get two inches up to our faces and mimicked our sentences for 5 minutes, until she told us she had Tourette Syndrome and walked away. Situations like this can get tense and we felt pretty startled, but all that is erased when once you have a bagel or fresh slice. Us New Yorkers are a strong rare breed with an extra level of ‘suffering tolerance’.
So whether it’s a $25 gin and tonic, or the guy on the subway watching “Deal or No Deal” really loud with no AC, it’s these signature things in this city that we just always come back to. We really dig the setup and contradiction in these posts, really smart. This Mashable piece does a great job of diving in deeper.
